From Principles to Practice: Neodent Smart Start Basic Implantology Course at Prodent

“From Principles to Practice: Neodent System Smart Start,” a three-day basic implantology course designed to give dental professionals a structured, practical introduction to implant dentistry.

Held in Prodent conference hall, from 17 to 19 September 2026, the course brought together clinicians for an intensive learning journey covering implant principles, treatment planning, surgical protocols, prosthetic workflows and live surgery. Through lectures, live demonstrations, hands-on sessions and participant case discussions, the program transformed foundational knowledge into practical clinical understanding.

Day 1: Building the foundation of implant dentistry

The first day, “Know It: Theory,” focused on the essential principles that support safe and predictable implant treatment.

Led by Dr. Maxim Baini and Dr. Loulwa Mourad, the program addressed the basics of osseointegration, case selection, systemic considerations, pre- and post-operative medication, CBCT reading and treatment planning.

Participants also explored pre-surgical preparation, incisions and flap design, bone types, drilling protocols in line with the Neodent Implant System, and the use of cover screws, healing abutments and one-time abutment concepts.

The day concluded with a Q&A and case discussion, giving attendees the opportunity to connect theoretical concepts with real clinical decisions.

Day 2: From suturing to digital and prosthetic workflows

Day two, “See It & Do It,” moved the learning into a more practical and interactive format.

Dr. Maxim Baini began with a demonstration on incisions, flap elevation and suturing, followed by a hands-on suturing session. Dr. Joseph Alwan then led the prosthetic component, covering treatment options, straight and angled abutments, stock and customizable solutions, impression techniques, and screw-retained versus cemented restorations.

The afternoon introduced digital impressions, scan bodies and intraoral scanning workflows, alongside advanced techniques such as guided surgery and immediate loading. Participants also had the opportunity to bring their own CBCTs for a case-planning workshop, creating an especially relevant and engaging learning experience.

Day 3: Live surgery and hands-on implant placement

The final day brought the Neodent Smart Start course from principles to practice through a live surgical experience.

Dr. Loulwa Mourad presented the live patient case, including CBCT evaluation, planning and the surgical protocol. This was followed by a live transmission of implant placement, performed by Dr. Maxim Baini and moderated by Dr. Loulwa Mourad.

Participants then completed a hands-on implant placement session, practising each key step: incision, flap elevation, osteotomy, implant insertion, healing abutment placement and suturing.

The course concluded with a live model demonstration by Dr. Joseph Alwan on abutment selection, impressions and crown placement. Participants then applied these concepts through hands-on impression-taking and crown placement on the implants they had placed.

Recognizing commitment to clinical education

At the end of the third day, certificates of attendance were distributed to participants, marking the completion of three days of focused implantology education and clinical practice.

The Neodent Smart Start basic implantology course in Lebanon reflected Prodent’s commitment to supporting clinicians at every stage of their professional development. By combining evidence-based theory, practical skills and real clinical discussion, the programme provided a strong foundation for clinicians looking to develop confidence in implant dentistry.

Prodent extends its sincere thanks to Dr. Maxim Baini, Dr. Loulwa Mourad, Dr. Joseph Alwan and every participant who contributed to the success of this course.
